I wrote this early in the pandemic. Thank you scientists for the vaccines, boosters, and treatments we have now. However, we know it is not all past, but we have this moment.
This poem is another of mine from Pandemic Puzzle Poems, the anthology from Diane Frank, Editor at Blue Light Press. The recent book is receiving much attention for the 256 pages of poetry by 131 poets. There is a stellar review of the book by Charles Rammelkamp in the London Grip . Any Day Now
That cough—
Covid-19 beginning?
Am I hot? Tired?
Tired of cleaning.
I forget for hours at a time
that I am waiting
to get sick.
Inevitable, eventual,
or so they say.
In the meantime,
my personal curves
are definitely not flattening.
My hair has lengthened
along with the days.
I have rechecked my will.
Told my husband and daughter
I love them.
Better to be prepared
than caught in denial.
Then the sun warms me
as I curl on the blue rug
in the dusty beams of the moment
and nap a cat’s dream.
mmmmmmmmm. 🙂
