A small noticing, like finding the stamens of flowering trees covering the sidewalk, can lead us down paths to new understandings. I find it amazing how all the countries and peoples in the world are interconnected in ways we do not always recognize or know.

PEACE
Red threads, curling, filling
sidewalk cracks, drifting.
Looks like so much saffron.
More expensive than gold.
I look above into the boughs
of a huge bottle brush tree.
Ah. But just imagine for a moment,
so much saffron rice pudding,
paella, Iranian bread, chicken tagine.
Imagine fields
of yellow and purple saffron crocus,
their scent glorious
under the Persian sun.
If our bombers missed them.
So much saffron, we all could eat with abandon
abundant yellow-tinted meals with Gazans,
Israelis and Iranians, together.
*Iran remains the largest producer of saffron worldwide, accounting for over 90% of all saffron production.
